Training for a career with animals

As a Veterinary Hospital, we have a commitment to training veterinary nurses and in fact we are registered as a Approved Training Centre for vet nurse training. Minimum requirements for nurse training:

Age: 17 years or more
Qualifications: 5 GCSE Grade C or above, to include English language, and also maths or a science
Time scale: Minimum two years
Where: Nurse trainees must also be in full-time employment at an approved training centre

Qualifed veterinary nurses (VNs) are finding an expanding role within veterinary practice. A recent amendment to the Veterinary Surgeons' Act has enabled them to take on many tasks within the practice which previously were limited to vets, and now a VN is permitted to carry out most tasks that you might expect to see a nurse doing when you visit your own GP or Hospital out-patients department.

In addition to this, there are also two further qualifications that a VN can attain, the Diplomas in Advanced Surgical or Medical Nursing.
